JSON Formatter & Validator

Paste JSON to format, validate or minify it.

About this json formatter & validator

JSON is the standard text format for data on the web, but minified or broken JSON is hard to read. This tool checks that your JSON is valid and shows the parser's error message when it is not, such as a trailing comma or a missing quote. Format it with 2 spaces, 4 spaces or tabs, sort the keys alphabetically to compare files, or minify it to save space. Everything runs in your browser, so API responses and configuration files are never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Paste your JSON into the input box.
  2. Press Format, Minify or Validate.
  3. Copy the result or download it as a file.

Tips and good to know

Use Format to read an API response and Minify to reduce its size before sending it. Sorting keys makes two JSON files easier to compare. JSON requires double quotes and does not allow comments or trailing commas. Avoid pasting secrets such as API keys into online tools you do not trust. This one processes everything locally.

Frequently asked questions

Why does it say my JSON is invalid?

Common causes are trailing commas, single quotes instead of double quotes, comments and unquoted keys. JSON does not allow them.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. The processing happens locally in your browser.
