About this gst calculator
GST is charged as a percentage of the price. To add GST, multiply the net price by one plus the rate. To remove it from a GST-inclusive price, divide by one plus the rate. A common mistake is subtracting the percentage from the total, which gives the wrong answer because GST was calculated on the smaller net amount. The calculator also shows the CGST and SGST halves used within one state. Rates change, so check official notifications.
How to use it
- Choose Add GST or Remove GST.
- Enter the amount and pick a rate or type your own.
- Read the net amount, GST, CGST/SGST split and total.
Frequently asked questions
Why divide instead of subtracting?
The tax was calculated on the net price, so 18% of the total would be too much.
What is IGST?
IGST applies to supplies between states. It equals the full GST amount, without a CGST/SGST split.
